Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her annual festive musical service at the historic Abbey, with attendees featuring dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The large audience will hear a blend of carols, music and readings from stars like award-winning actors.

Centred Around Kindness and Compassion

The theme of the service, held in the atmospheric historic church on the afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

In the audience are Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose daughter died of a tumour, and who founded an organisation, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to support families who have a terminally ill child.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often quietly and unspoken, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an remarkable change to the well-being of people," Her Royal Highness stated in a note prior to the carol service.

A Steady Comeback

The royal has been undertaking her own measured re-emergence to public life subsequent to her illness and medical care, recently giving her first public speech for two years, in which she talked about recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Music and Opportunity

Those coming to the Abbey can listen to budding artists backed by the charitable trust Future Talent, established in part by the Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for musical tuition.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from Wales, has been assisted by the trust, with funding assisting with instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "incredible" to be taking part in the concert.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," Carys said. She is now studying at the prestigious music academy, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to develop their musical skills.

A Sisterly Duo

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who is a euphonium player, will also be at the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many important people," she said.

Attending the service will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will feature Saphia Turner, aged nine, honouree of a prize for youthful altruism, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to raise money for local food charities.

Festive Decor and Performances

The Abbey has been festooned with custom-created holiday decorations, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

The musical lineup includes recording artist Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a nautical singing ensemble, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "the perfect culmination."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be televised and shown on ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
