The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing viewers to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a brief look into the storyline but leaving fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys
The preview reveals Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a brand new plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is why Woody is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the badge pinned to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
